Cataract surgery

Cataracts are not a disease! They usually are a testimony that you have lived a fairly long life. Cataracts happen when the clear natural lens that sits inside your eye becomes cloudy. It can compromise your vision, driving and ability to read and recognise others.

Fortunately, with today's technology, cataract surgery has never been so safe and outcomes have never been so good. You can choose to have distance and reading vision using different eyes or premium lenses that will give you both.

Monofocal implants

These implants are great if you want perfect quality distance or near vision. Because they whether do distance or near vision they have the best quality of image and are very reliable.

You can discuss with Mr Peixoto if you would like to try monovision, in which we will set one eye for distance vision and another for reading vision. This is the best of both worlds!

Toric implants

These are specially designed implants to get rid of your astigmatism. With astigmatism your cornea is shaped like a rugby ball and this makes light enter your eye in an irregular way and causes you vision to be distorted.

Toric implants mean that you are more likely to have spectacle free vision after your cataract surgery.

Multifocal implants

Multifocal implants are the equivalent of varifocal lenses in spectacles. They allow you to see in the distance and to read without need for glasses.

Enhanced depth of focus lenses are a new type of lenses that give a range of focusing without compromising quality of vision or glare.

Lens replacement surgery

A fair amount of people have a refractive error and this means that they have to wear glasses to have good vision. This can be true for short sighted people (they can see well for reading but need glasses for distance), long sighted people (can see well in the distance but need glasses for reading) or people with astigmatism (clear part of the eye has an uneven shape and images are fuzzy).

Fortunately, there are solutions to overcome this. Your lens can be removed and replaced with a lens that corrects your refractive error. Mr Peixoto will discuss with you a personalised plan to make sure that you choose the best option for you.

Your surgeon

Dr Peixoto is a highly skilled cataract surgeon having completed several thousand cases, including cases with a very high degree of difficulty. Despite this he has a very low complication rate, significantly lower than the average in the UK.
